Dual IC

Dual ion chromatography is a broad term involving many applications. With the advent of column switching techniques, dual systems, sample and solvent switching, and most importantly — powerful software control, the advantages of dual applications are becoming more accessible and their utility easier to exploit. Dual IC involves applications such as two-dimensional ion chromatography (2-D IC), as well as dual analysis, using simultaneous or sequential injection.

2-D IC is a dual-column technique to enhance analyte selectivity and sensitivity. One example of this application is the detection of low-level toxic compounds in a matrix with interfering analytes.

Dual IC can also refer to dual analysis using simultaneous or sequential injection. These applications are useful in high-throughput applications that require multiple analyses from a single sample. For example, anion and cation analysis can be performed with one injection using only one autosampler. Additional benefits include confirmatory analysis, and dilution elimination by simultaneous injection to a large and small loop. The ICS-3000 expands these capabilities even further with dual conductivity and electrochemical detection. This allows you to analyze common anions, iodide, sulfide, cyanide, phenols, organic acids, and carbohydrates from a single injection.  The examples below demonstrate the systems and solutions that dual IC have already provided. All Dionex systems are designed for dual-performance analysis while the ICS-3000 has expanded capabilities for complex applications such as 2-D IC.
