Pittcon 2010

Dionex introduced innovative products that expanded the power and performance of chromatography, increased productivity, reduced solvent use, and saved money. Dionex is well known for IC, RFIC, HPLC, RSLC, sample extraction, chromatography data systems, advanced column and suppressor technologies, and a global support network. The ESA family of industry leading HPLC detectors has joined our portfolio. For 2010, we presented...

System Innovations

ICS-5000 Capillary Reagent-Free Ion Chromatography System: Our new ICS-5000 Reagent-Free Ion Chromatography (RFIC) system combines all the award-winning features of other Dionex high-end products with capillary IC into one dual system. Using IC x IC technology in capillary and analytical modes, chemists can now achieve ultralow detection limits without the cost and operational challenges of a mass spectrometer.

UltiMate 3000 RSLCnano System:The UltiMate® 3000 RSLCnano system joins our family of industry-leading Rapid Separation LC (RSLC) systems. The RSLCnano system is ideal for ultrafast and ultrahigh-resolution separations of proteins and peptides for proteomics research. The system’s unrivaled flexibility is provided by an extensive flow-pressure footprint, delivering continuous, direct flow rates from 20 nL/min to 50 μL/min at backpressures of up to 800 bar (11,600 psi) for nano, capillary, and micro LC analyses.

AutoTrace 280 System: The new AutoTrace® 280 system is an automated solid-phase extraction (SPE) instrument designed to be used with large volume (20 mL–4 L) samples for the isolation of trace organics in water or aqueous matrices. The instrument traps compounds of interest on SPE adsorbents (in cartridge or disk format) and then elutes them with strong solvents to generate an analysis-ready extract, thus saving time, solvent, and labor, and ensuring high reproducibility for analytical laboratories.

Corona ultra Charged Aerosol Detector: The industry-leading Corona® ultra Charged Aerosol Detector is now available for the Dionex UltiMate 3000 HPLC and RSLC systems. Charged Aerosol Detection® (CAD®) has broad applicability across a wide array of applications. The Corona ultra can detect any nonvolatile and many semivolatile analytes independent of chemical structure, with or without a chromophore.

FLD-3000 Fluorescence Detectors: Our new FLD-3000 high-sensitivity  series for the UltiMate 3000 HPLC systems is available in Rapid Separation (100 Hz) and Standard (20 Hz) versions. The optics of the FLD-3000 Series provide maximum stray light suppression for unrivaled detection sensitivity. Innovative technologies supply various tools for individual method development, such as multiple stop-flow or continuous scans, zero order emission operation, or multi-channel acquisition.

Column and Accessory Innovations

IonPac® AS22-Fast Anion-Exchange Columns: Available in 4 x 150 mm and 2 x 150 mm formats, these shorter column formats decreases dead volume, translating into faster run times than a standard AS22 column. They also allows higher flow rates, accelerating run times even further. With the AS22-Fast column, seven common anions can be separated in less than 4 min.

Capillary Consumables for Ion Chromatography: New columns, suppressors, and accessories have been released to support the new ICS-5000 Capillary RFIC system.

  •  Capillary IC Columns: These 0.4 mm columns use less eluent, resulting in reduced operating costs. The columns produce the same performance as a regular 4-mm column but require 1/100th of the eluent flow rate.
  • Capillary Eluent Generator Cartridge (EGC): Allows automatic production of high-purity IC eluents. The precise control of eluent concentration reduces baseline shifts, increases sensitivity, improves resolution, and ensures consistent peak integration. Typically, the cartridge will last 18 months thus allowing Always On operation.
  • Continuously Regenerated Trap Column (CR-TC): High-pressure electrolytically regenerated devices that operate continuously to remove trace levels of contaminants introduced by feed water. The CR-TC allows operation with very low baseline drift during gradient operation, and improves day-to-day and lab-to-lab reproducibility.
  • Capillary Electrolytic Suppressor 300 (CES 300): Suppression reduces the baseline on a conductivity detector and increases analyte sensitivity. The suppressor is optimized for eluent flow rates typically seen in capillary systems (5–30 µL/min).
  • Carbonate Removal Device 200 (CRD 200): Supports carbonate removal from capillary scale systems using hydroxide eluents at flow rates of 5–30 µL/min.

IonSwift MAX-100 Monolith Anion-Exchange Column: The new IonSwift MAX-100 column is designed for fast, gradient separation of monovalent, divalent, and trivalent carboxylic acids and inorganic anions in a variety of sample matrices including food, beverage, and chemical samples. The monolithic stationary phase provides faster separation of organic acids and inorganic anions with lower backpressure, allowing the use of higher linear velocities with standard analytical-scale instrumentation.

Acclaim® HILIC Column: This new column line is designed for separating highly hydrophilic analytes by Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography (HILIC). It was created for a broad range of applications including separation of highly hydrophilic drugs and drug metabolites.

Acclaim Carbamate Column: This specialty column is specifically designed for analysis of carbamates specified in United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Method 531.2, using LC-postcolumn derivatization-fluorescence or LC-MS methods.

Anion Concentrator for Eluent Regeneration: The new AC-ER column is a very low dead-volume concentrator designed to work with Reagent-Free IC systems using eluent regeneration. Up to 266 injections can be performed before the eluent needs to be replaced, regardless of the actual volume of sample loaded onto the concentrator.

InGuard In-Line Sample Pretreatment Cartridges: These multiuse in-line sample preparation cartridges for ion chromatography are packed with a range of resins that can automatically remove matrix interferences such as anions, cations including transition metals, and hydrophobic contaminants including lipids.
