The CarboPacTM PA10 is an anion-exchange column designed specifically for high-resolution separations of mono- and disaccharides. Separation is accomplished with a simple isocratic eluent, and detection is accomplished with pulsed amperometric detection (PAD). No derivatization is required.

When combined with the AminoTrapTM column, the CarboPac PA10 is a good choice for the determination of amino, neutral, and acidic monosaccharides found in the carbohydrate moieties of mammalian glycoproteins. For similar selectivity with faster analysis times, the CarboPac PA20 is now available.
The CarboPac PA10 is a good choice for high-sensitivity separations of monosaccharides found in mammalian glycoproteins and provides superior selectivity compared to the CarboPac PA1. In particular, fucose is well resolved from the system void and common protein hydrolysate interferents. In addition, as a result of the optimized cross-linking, the CarboPac PA10 has a high selectivity for oxygen. Oxygen is eluted well after mannose, thus eliminating its interference with the quantification of monosaccharides.
The CarboPac PA10 can also be used for monosaccharides and disaccharides in matrices other than glycoprotein hydrolysates, including foods, drugs, and plant matrices. If a complex mixture of sugar alcohols is present, however, the high-capacity CarboPac MA1 should be used. Acidic oligosaccharides such as sialic acids can be separated readily without derivatization on the CarboPac PA10 with the addition of sodium acetate to the eluent.
